their idea for the market and motan will
also help with the patent application in
the winners name.

The motto for mia this time aroun
d
is “Let your ideas shape the future”
:
Fostering innovation, inspiring the indus-
try – these are the goals of the motan in-
novation award mia. This year it is being
awarded for the second time. Ideas relat-
ing to material handling in plastics pro-
duction and processing are wanted. The
prize money of 20,000 euro in total
should motivate everyone to come up
with ideas who is interested in plastics
and their applications, whether students,
employees, or professionals. “To many
good ideas are never developed or pur-
sued. As a result, the industry loses enor-
mous potential. We want to find these
treasures which are often found inside
peoples heads and left to languish in
draws”, explains Sandra Füllsack, Manag-
Innovative ideas in plastics wanted
handling. The five best applicants will be
able to present their idea during the
summer of 2018. In October 2018, the
prizes will be awarded during the
FAKUMA in Friedrichshafen. How the
prize money of 20,000 euros is divided
up between the winners will be decided
by the judges. More information:

Covestro
www.covestro.comkalie Anilin lässt sich jetzt aus Biomasse
gewinnen. Der Werkstoffhersteller hat
dafür zusammen mit Partnern – zu-
nächst im Labor – ein komplett neues
Verfahren entwickelt. Bisher wird Anilin
weltweit ausschließlich aus fossilen Roh-
stoffen wie Erdöl hergestellt. Es spielt in
der chemischen Industrie eine bedeuten-
de Rolle und wird als Ausgangsstoff für
zahlreiche Produkte gebraucht.
Nach dem Erfolg im Labor will Covestro
das neue Verfahren nun zusammen mit
Partnern aus Wirtschaft und Wissen-
schaft weiterentwickeln. Zunächst soll es
in einer Versuchsanlage in größere tech-
nische Dimensionen überführt werden.
Endgültiges Ziel ist, die Herstellung von
biobasiertem Anilin im Industriemaßstab
zu ermöglichen. Das wäre ein absolutes
Novum in der Kunststoffbranche.
Um das Verfahren weiterzuentwickeln,
arbeitet Covestro mit der Universität
Stuttgart, dem CAT Catalytic Center an
der RWTH Aachen University sowie der
Bayer AG zusammen. „Dieses interdiszi-
plinäre, motivierte Team vereint alle be-
nötigten Expertisen auf sehr hohem Ni-
veau und bildet die Basis für den weite-
ren Erfolg“, sagt Projektleiter Dr. Gernot
Jäger von Covestro.
