Hosokawa Alpine’s multi-processing system: by combining different mill and process modules, new products can be developed more quickly and production concepts can be scaled up reliably

Hosokawa Alpine AG has expanded its range of multi-processing systems to include the UPZ 100 III fine impact mill. Thanks to a newly developed universal mounting solution, it can now be seamlessly integrated. The company thus guarantees maximum flexibility in the development of new products whose grinding properties cannot be reliably predicted in advance.

Seven mill types on a single system periphery

As product development often involves switching between different mill types or, for example, integrating a classifier or a classifier mill into the process, the use of several separate systems impairs the efficiency of the production process and also requires a great deal of space. “Our multi-processing systems have proven to be the ideal solution for these requirements in practice,” explains Andre Voges, Head of Sales Pharma at Hosokawa Alpine. This is because these mobile and extremely flexible system concepts integrate different types of mills into a single system periphery. Hosokawa Alpine thus implements different grinding processes on a single platform – flexibly, efficiently and in a space-saving manner, as the required units can be changed quickly and easily. The multi-processing system has so far enabled up to seven different mill types to be connected to a single system periphery. With the integration of the UPZ 100 III fine impact mill, Hosokawa Alpine has now expanded the range of applications for the multi-processing system to include a further option.

The UPZ 100 III fine impact mill is now available as an addition to Hosokawa Alpine AG’s flexible multi-processing systems

Ultraplex UPZ 100 III fine impact mill for fine grinding

The Ultraplex UPZ 100 III fine impact mill is used for particle sizes ranging from 50 µm to 5 mm and for grinding soft to medium-hard materials up to a Mohs hardness of 3. It can be operated as a screenless pin mill or as an impact mill with an impact disc, pendulum beaters or plate beaters. Material is fed centrally via a mill door that swings open wide, facilitating easy tool changes and quick cleaning.

Significantly expanded range of applications

The UPZ 100 III is now an integral part of the multi-processing system and significantly expands its range of applications, from standard applications to demanding processes involving toxic or potentially explosive products in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as temperature-sensitive raw materials. Its
integration enables testing on a laboratory and pilot scale and provides reliable data for subsequent production design. At the same time, the system remains future-proof, as additional process modules and mill types can be easily retrofitted as required. Hosokawa Alpine’s multi-processing system concept is scalable and covers the entire spectrum – from research and development through pilot applications to industrial production.
