From June 9 to 12, 2026, the Baumüller Group will be showcasing innovative drive and automation solutions for the plastics and recycling industries at PLAST in Milan, in Hall 13, Booth A21. As a partner for electric drive systems, Baumüller supports machine builders across all sectors of plastics and recycling technology in equipping hybrid and fully electric machines to enhance efficiency and process quality.
Smart drives: the key to efficiency and precision
The Baumüller Group’s particular strength lies in Drive Intelligence – the integration of machine functions directly into the servo drive. This approach reduces system complexity, hardware requirements, and response times, enabling shorter cycle times, higher precision, and improved machine protection.
Drive-integrated functions for productivity and efficiency
At PLAST 2026, Baumüller will showcase a wide range of intelligent drive functions. These include an injection control system integrated directly into the servo drive with an extremely short cycle time of 125 µs.
Another highlight is the Smart Energy Monitoring feature, which measures and analyzes energy consumption directly within the drive system. This eliminates the need for external power meters while significantly increasing transparency and the potential for energy optimization.
The Shock Detection machine protection function also runs directly within the servo drive, thereby eliminating delays caused by fieldbus communication. It enables early detection of blockages and overloads in recycling and plastics processing machines. This helps prevent damage to plasticizing units and shredding shafts, caused, for example, by incorrect material or foreign objects, and increases machine uptime and productivity.
Baumüller will also be presenting its patented actual pressure estimator at PLAST 2026. Using a detailed servo-hydraulic model calculated in real time based on current and speed in the servo drive, the prevailing system pressure is estimated. This allows the machine to complete the cycle and move to a defined service position even in the event of a sensor failure, thereby increasing machine availability.
Drive technology with a wide range of options
With its electric and servo-hydraulic drives, Baumüller plays a pioneering role in plastics technology. Offering a wide variety of motors and electronic components, numerous drive topologies, and state-of-the-art simulation methods, Baumüller gets involved early in the design phase, enabling the development of the optimal drive system for each specific application.
High-performance drive package for improved output and energy efficiency in servo-hydraulic systems
At PLAST 2026, Baumüller will showcase its new standalone units from the b maXX 6500 family, which are particularly compact thanks to their high power density and offer flexible scalability. This allows for even smaller control cabinets or fewer cabinets overall.
With the DS4 motor series, Baumüller is setting a new benchmark for compact, high-performance main drives. The motor boasts an efficiency of over 95 percent, and its compact design helps reduce the machine’s footprint.
Highly dynamic closing motion thanks to the new DST3 generation of torque motors
With its DST3 torque motors, Baumüller also offers a highly dynamic and powerful motor. For example, the new DST3 torque motor can move the clamping unit open and closed more precisely and quickly. This is due to its optimized power density and high dynamics combined with smooth operation. This combination results in reduced space requirements, optimized weight and resource usage, as well as improved productivity and precision.
