39 Extrusion International 5/2026 COMPOUNDING ZSK Twin Screw Extruders for the Production of High-Performance Engineering Plastics Dongguan Baier Plastic Co., Limited, a leading provider of high-performance engineering plastics based in China, has acquired three ZSK Mc 18 compounders from Coperion. With these twin screw extruders, the company is expanding its production capacity for high- performance engineering plastics such as PA6/PA66, PEEK, PEI, PAI, PPS, PPO, PPA, PA9T, PA10T, LCP, and PA46, which are primarily used in the automotive industry, the electrical and electronics sector, and mechanical engineering. T he processing of high-performance engineering plastics places the highest demands on production technology and the compounding process. Drawing on its extensive experience accumulated over many years and numerous successful references, Coperion has de- signed the set-up of the three ZSK extruders and the suitable screw designs for the required high process temperatures. Combined with the high speci c torque, the ZSK Mc 18 extruders ensure an ef cient and product- gentle operation, achieving highest throughput rates while maintaining excellent product quality. The new extruders will enhance the production capac- ity and expand the product portfolio of Dongguan Baier Plastic, which has successfully operated a ZSK Mc 18 twin screw extruders from Coperion for several years. ZSK Extruders: Tailored for the Highest Demands High-performance engineering plastics are character- ized by their ability to maintain their mechanical prop- erties over long periods, even at extreme temperatures above 400°C. The compounding of these plastics requires specially con gured production technology. Extruders used for processing high- performance plastics must be signi cantly more powerful than those designed for stan- dard plastics and must with- stand high process tempera- tures. Coperion is recognized as an expert in extrusion systems in this eld. With extensive know-how, Coperion has de - signed the process sections of the three ZSK Mc 18 ex- truders for Dongguan Baier Plastic both mechanically and electrically for melt temperatures of up to 450°C. The extruders are equipped with powerful heating car- tridges and effective thermal insulation to maintain the required temperatures consistently. The twin screws are individually con gured for the processing of high-performance engineering plastics, and both the screws and the barrels are equipped with special wear and corrosion protection. The high speci c torque of the ZSK extruders, com - bined with the specially designed twin screws, ensures a short residence time of the highly viscous melt in the process section at a very high lling degree. The result is very high throughput rates and outstanding product quality. Additionally, the side degassing units ZS-EG reli- ably and stably degas the plastic melt, further enhanc- ing the product quality of the high-performance engi- neering plastics. Additional intelligent features on the ZSK extruders ensure quick recipe changes.
