Evosys, a provider of innovative laser welding solutions from Erlangen, Germany, draws a thoroughly positive conclusion from this year’s K trade fair in Düsseldorf. A particular highlight of the trade fair was the EvoWeld Mini, made from a wooden housing, which not only looked impressive but also symbolized the sustainability aspect of laser plastic welding. The integrated absorption tester made the compact welding station a crowd puller and underlined Evosys’ innovative strength.
The focus is also on the EvoWeld Generation 2. Continuous development and the optimized design of the system enable even higher welding quality with shorter delivery times. The EvoWeld 2 is available at short notice and can be flexibly adapted to customer requirements – with either manual or automatic loading and unloading.
The retrofit kit for the Evo2Step process was also demonstrated on this standard machine during live welding. This is a combination of simple, additional equipment and a sequence control system specially developed for existing machines, so that the Evo2Step process variant can be easily integrated into all machines with a pneumatic clamping system. This allows two absorbent components with a size of up to approx. 100 x 100 mm² to be manufactured very efficiently and with high quality in a two-stage laser welding process on almost all Evosys machines.

For larger components, the new Evo2Step machines are also available, with up to 2.8 kW laser power, larger working areas of up to 2 x 2 m², servo-electric clamping systems, and many other features.
One of these features is the ability to determine the absorption of plastics at 980 nm for the first time. The heat absorption behavior of the two joining partners is crucial for optimal process control and high-quality results in the two-stage Evo2Step process. The absorption test function makes it easy to check this behavior and compare it very accurately between different individual parts.
In addition, Evosys presented the consistent further development of the EVO 0800-TD. The compact control technology is now housed in space-saving 19″ racks, which facilitates integration into existing production lines and significantly reduces space requirements, as an additional control cabinet is no longer necessary. The stand-alone kit with operator interface enables manual operation, ideal for process development and sample part production. Later, the process module can be easily integrated into a fully automated line, allowing the accumulated know-how to be used directly in series production.
