At the K 2025 trade fair, ARGUS Additive Plastics GmbH is presenting new Processing Aid masterbatches for extrusion applications that are not based on perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).
The use of processing aids, also known as polymer processing aids, has many advantages. A very low proportion of such a masterbatch during extrusion results in good surface quality of films or pipes, for example, by preventing melt fracture. In addition, processing aids enable an increase in output by reducing the process pressure. Furthermore, deposits on dies and other machine parts can be avoided or at least reduced. This results in less downtime and a longer service life for machine parts. In general, the use of processing aids leads to a lower environmental impact, as there are fewer rejects and therefore less waste.
ARGUS Additive Plastics GmbH already developed and successfully tested a fluorine-free processing aid in 2019. The new ARGUMELT PA 1376 LD is an advanced version which can be used for more complex requirements in film production.
Further new developments have focused specifically on the effectiveness against die build-up, which can increase production running times. One example is the new ARGUMELT PA 1407 LD, which showed a significantly reduced die build-up phenomenon, both on a trial scale (Fig. 1) and during large-scale production under real production conditions.
