In an industry where efficiency, precision, and material flexibility are paramount, plastics manufacturers face the constant challenge of optimizing their extrusion processes. The growing use of recycled materials, challenging powders, and the relentless demand for higher output rates require a dosing solution that is not just accurate, but fundamentally more stable and versatile.
Piovan Fdm, a global leader in automation solutions for the plastics industry, has announced the launch of the GDS9-2000, a next-generation gravimetric dosing system engineered to set a new industry benchmark. The GDS9-2000 is a complete redesign, built from the ground up to overcome the limitations of conventional systems on the market and delivers superior performance in the most demanding applications, including high-throughput extrusion and compounding.
A Foundation of Stability and Accuracy
At the core of the GDS9-2000's innovation lies a new, larger-diameter base frame and a revolutionary, adaptable weighing architecture. Moving beyond traditional single-point support systems, the GDS9-2000 offers flexible load cell configurations that perfectly adapt to diverse application requirements:
- Single load cell configuration: ideal for standard granule dosing stations
- Dual load cell configuration: specifically engineered for heavy or asymmetric regrind stations, delivering exceptional mechanical stability
- Triple load cell configuration: optimized for specialized dosing units like the TS-70 for powder applications
This modular architecture ensures drastically reduced impact from plant vibrations across all configurations and guarantees consistent, highly accurate measurements. The result translates directly into reduced material waste and superior end-product quality, regardless of the material type being processed or station configuration.
Unprecedented Flexibility for Every Application

The GDS9’s modularity allows for the configuration of up to nine components, offering tailored solutions for any production need:
- Micro-Dosing Perfected: The new DS30 dosing unit features an optional dosing cylinder that provides a completely smooth, pulsation-free flow for micro-additives, starting from just 0.2 kg/h .
- Challenging Powders Mastered: The TS-70 twin-screw unit for powders can be enhanced with an innovative ultrasonic device, which fluidizes difficult materials like calcium carbonate to prevent bridging and ensure consistent flow.
- Difficult Regrind Handled with Ease: Specialized asymmetric and rectangular hoppers, combined with powerful DS80 and DS100 screws, are designed to manage even the most challenging, low-bulk-density flakes and regrind without interruption.
Engineered for Productivity and Seamless Integration
Designed for throughputs of up to 2,000 kg/h (and higher on demand) and with Siemens PLC control, the GDS9-2000 is built for high-output lines. With options like a high-temperature version (up to 160 °C) for PET applications and seamless integration into existing plant controls via Profinet, OPC UA, and other digital interfaces, the GDS9-2000 is an Industry 4.0-ready solution that enhances productivity from day one.
The GDS9-2000 is more than an equipment upgrade; it is a strategic investment in process stability, operational efficiency, and future-proof production.
