Founded in 2019 by Dr. Fabiana Fantinel and Dr. Alessandro Carfagnini, CO2BioClean is an innovative start-up based in Eschborn, Germany. The CO2BioClean patented fermentation process uses industrial CO2 emissions to produce biodegradable and compostable polymers which can then be used in the production (for example) of bioplastics and textiles.. CO2 is captured at source from industrial facilities and transformed through fermentation into fully biodegradable PolyHydroxyAlkanoates (PHA). The fermentation units are installed alongside industrial structures and cause no change to the processes themselves, capturing emissions at the end of a pipe.

The latest product developmentby CO2BioClean is a PHA film. Making film from PHA is actually a fairly complex operation as experts will understand so the company is particularly proud to have succeeded.
The photos show a small roll of film and the film itself, which is quite opaque in colour but can be used in packaging (or other) needs where biodegradability is an asset. To remind readers, this PHA is produced from using waste CO2 plus some hydrogen that are together fermented into the polymer.
By using a waste feedstock, the material, which locks in carbon, becomes CO2 negative. It can be composted or soil biodegraded where that feature is required.
