New extrusion line for Duisburg-Essen University

New extrusion line for Duisburg-Essen University

News 06.09.2018

Outstanding teaching and excellent research – a good university is characterizedby both. Innovations can be developed particularly successfully in collaboration with companies that have a modern mindset and are forward-thinking. Brabender has close strategic partnership ties with Duisburg-Essen University. It's a classic win-win situation: on the one hand students benefit from field-tested support provided by one of the world's leading manufacturers of laboratory analyzers. On the other hand this successful collaboration enables Brabender to obtain new inspiration and food for thought from the ranks of these budding engineers.

Stand-Alone Extruder KE 19 with Univex take-off unit

The plastics engineering section is delighted with the permanent loan of a new Brabender extrusion line. The line's centerpiece is the versatile Stand-AloneExtruder KE 19 (19/25 D) featuring a tri-zone screw with mixing details for homogenization purposes. Students can use this device in combination with the flexible die that comes with the extruder (width: 100 millimeters, variable slit height: 0-1.1 millimeters) to develop new products.

This all-purpose extruder is complemented by downstream equipment to remove, cool and wind flat films. The Univex flat film take-off unit operates at speeds of up to 30 meters a minute. Brabender has also provided the University with a complementary extrusion tool featuring adjustable exit slit geometry.

The new line will be used both in seminars and research projects. For example one project will focus on the insights gained from taking thermo-rheological measurements using the Rotary Rheometer. These are to be simulated during the course of defined dwell times and analyzed using color change tests.
