Extrusion International 4-2025-USA

35 Extrusion International 4/2025 Production Lines Rationalized Orion announced it plans to dis- continue production at three to five of its carbon black lines at mul - tiple facilities in the Americas and EMEA by the end of 2025. "This decision is part of Orion's strategy to focus maintenance in- vestments on higher-performing production lines – making them more reliable and productive – and to rationalize underperforming as- sets,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said. “This move is also intended to enhance free cash flow." Painter added, “Recently intro - duced U.S. tariffs, the EU anti- dumping investigation and con- tinued tire capacity investment in both regions should help reverse the local tire manufacturing share loss. However, given the uncer - tain timing of this recovery, we are choosing to take this action now.” 10 Safety Awards Earned Orion has received 10 safety awards from the International Carbon Black Association, which each year recognizes companies that have superior safety records at their manufacturing sites. The ICBA said Orion “set the benchmark” for the carbon black industry for employee health and safety. The awards are part of the association’s Safety Recognition Program, a voluntary initiative based on verified data from the previous year. “Safety is our highest priority at our sites and throughout our com- pany,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said. “As we continue to focus our capital investments more on maintenance and reliability across our global operations, we expect to build on our success with safe- ty.” Eight Orion plants won Gold Awards. The sites were in Belpre, Ohio; Berre-l'Étang, France; Huai - bei, China; Ivanhoe, Louisiana; Jaslo, Poland; Paulinia, Brazil; Ravenna, Italy; and Yeosu, South Korea. Facilities earning Gold Awards must fulfill a variety of criteria, in - cluding receiving globally recog- nized safety certifications, having no regulatory citations for safety- related events, audits or activities, among other requirements. Two additional Orion plants – in Orange, Texas, and Qingdao, Chi - na – received Bronze Awards for recording zero “Lost Work Day” cases, defined as nonfatal occu - pational injuries or illnesses that result in missed workdays. “The ICBA’s recognition reflects our employees’ unwavering com- mitment and belief that achiev- ing a consistently injury-free workplace is both attainable and a core value of our company,” said Carlos Quinones, senior vice president of Global Operations at Orion.
