Extrusion International USA 3-2019

25 Extrusion International 3/2019 Extrusion Tooling – Latest Technology showcased at Interwire Interwire, the largest and longest-running wire and cable show, took place between May 13 and May 16, in Atlanta, Georgia. Guill Tooling & Engineering had quite a turnout at their booth. Company personnel were able share their knowl- edge and interact with many potential customers. Guill was showcasing some of its latest technology. Featured were the in-line 5 layer extrusion crosshead of Series 800, sin- gle-point concentricity extrusion crosshead and Bullet II extru- sion head. Guill’s 800 Series is designed to produce the highest quality, highest material-efficient OD tubing for automotive, medi- cal, appliance and industrial applications. This series produces smooth extrusion and layer definition of fluropolymer and other materials for all multi-layer, multi-lumen medical tub- ing, as well as fuel line constructions, multi-layer PEX pipe and drip irrigation applications. The single-point concentricity crosshead uses micro-fine ad- justment screws for precise concentricity. This adjustment is a unique feature of the company for the extrusion of thin- walled jacketing and precision ID/OD tubing. It not only ac- cepts both vaccum and micro-air accessories, but is also ideal for pressure and sleeving applications. Introduced in 2015, the Bullet was a new extrusion head with fixed center design, multi-port spiral flow design and gum space adjustment. There was no need for fastening hardware, so cleaning and restart were easier. The Bullet II allows quick tooling changes, as the tips remove from the back and the die removes from the front. Guill’s CAMLOCK ® deflector removes and installs the deflector and tip with just half a turn. Hassle free air and vacuum connections are available, in addition to reduced downtime and lowered operating costs. High-vol- ume and low-volume applications are suitable for this cross- head. Guill Tool & Engineering www.guill.com Opening of Canadian Distribution Operation announced Conventus Polymers, a leading distributor of high-perfor- mance engineering thermoplastics, has established a Cana- dian distribution operation based in Toronto which offers the company’s broad portfolio of products to processors and end users in the Ontario and Quebec provinces. The expan- sion into Canada is part of the company’s overall business strategy to grow into key geographic regions. “Our business is growing quickly and with our extensive product portfolio of specialty engineering plastics, we are firmly positioned as a strategic supplier,” said John Jor- gensen, president of Conventus Polymers. “This important move signals our further commitment to key national and multinational OEMs.” The Canadian initiative has increased Conventus’ penetra- tion into the automotive market, a key end-use segment for the company, in addition to expanding its reach into exist- ing strategic markets such as electrical/electronics, plumb- ing, and wire and cable, according to Jorgensen. Conventus has filed registration documents with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). To support the operation, the company has established a commercial presence in Toronto. Conventus has also established a warehouse in Montreal, with plans to open another facility in Toronto. Conventus is selling the same global portfolio of products in Canada including specialty nylons, polysulfones, thermoplastics vulcanizates (TPVs), and custom compounds.
