Extrusion International USA 2-2022

19 Extrusion International 2/2022 Melt Filter for PET Recycling System Delivered „ 2021 saw BB Engineering (Germany) deliver a melt fi lter for recycling PET fl akes to polyester manufacturer Indora- ma Polyester Industries (Thailand). Indorama will be using the type NSF38 fi lter in its recently assembled recycling system in order to produce rPET granulate from fl ake PET bottle waste. The NSF38 fi lter enables continual fi ltering – in other words, the system switches from one fi lter to the other during the process without the need for conversion shut-downs. The fi lter allows the processing of consumer waste – for example, in the form of shredded PET bottles – into new, high-quality rPET granulate. This granulate is subsequently processed into manmade fi bers in spinning systems. The NSF38 is a switchable fi lter with a fi lter surface area of ap-prox. 16 m 2 on each side, with throughputs of between 1,000 and 1,900 kg/h. The fi lter inserts each contain 19 pleated fi lter candles (60 x 1,000mm Ø). The fi lter medium comprises a sintered metal fi ber nonwoven with a fi ltra- tion fi neness of 25 μ m. This ensures that the melt remains free of contaminants and gel particles, which in turn en- ables the production of high-quality end products.
