36 Extrusion International 4/2026 EXTRUSION TECHNOLOGIES, PIPE EXTRUSION The Strength of PVC Pipeheads CONEXTRU has recently released a new generation of PVC pipe heads, which are suitable for use with U-PVC, M-PVC and O-PVC. This product is designed speci cally for C-PVC or 100% regrinded PVC material. It is available with a special head modi cation that has a lower volume. T he standard product line consists of eight pipe heads in total, with diameters ranging from 10 mm to 1,000 mm, PV 63 to PV 1000. All pipe heads are designed for pressure class PN 16, even for the largest outer diam- eter. The latest generation of PVC heads boasts a wider range of outer diameters, a development that has been achieved through the implementation of a completely new mechanical engineering design. The product line is designed to facilitate the use of die sets with the next larger head via range adapters. This feature reduces the number of die sets and investment. The standard version of the die set has eight heating zones, which are segmented with a thermal isolation layer between each pair of zones. This makes thermal centring possible either manually or in combination with automated wall thickness measurement. Should multiple wall thicknesses be required, the mandrel will be split into two parts: the basic mandrel and the front part of the mandrel. In the event of a change in wall thickness at the same outer diameter, it will only be possible to change the front part of the mandrel. This, in conjunction with horizontal die and mandrel alterations, minimises the time required for di- mensional adjustments. All pipe heads are equipped with a state-of-the-art torpedo tip design, which directs the melt into a ring- shaped ow before it enters the large volume area of the head. This uniform ow around the circumference results in a much shorter start-up time and faster clean- ing with freezing compound. For the thickest wall PN 16, each head has a high com- pression ratio of over 5 times the cross section of the torpedo compared to the cross section of the die set.
