An ECON Hybrid 50 is in use at a research facility whose operator says: “We are developing new materials based on wood flour-filled WPC plastics. We use the underwater pel- letizing system up to a filler content of approx. 70% to 75% with wood flour. Above this level, we switch to the air pelletizing system. Since we were limited in space and investment possibi- lities, we now use two technologies in one compounding line, which is a great advantage for us.” One special feature of this technology is that all components are interconnected to each other on the base frame. Only the cut- ting chamber, which is connected to the corresponding trans- port and cooling pipes, is converted in a few simple steps. The operating switchover in the control system ensures maximum safety for the operator and a simple, visualized operation. The special advantage of the machine, apart from its high va- riability, is that both technologies use the same die plate unit. This means that no modifications have to be made e.g. before the melt reaches the pelletizer. Ultimately, this also reduces in- vestment costs. Bioplastics in particular tend to overheat if the pressure builds up too much, which reduces the quality and even causes the material to "burn" during the process. With the ECON technology, this risk is significantly minimized. The thermal separation prevents the die holes from freezing – the- refore large throughput ranges are possible. Since the first de- velopment of “smaller” machines, this innovative pelletizing system is also successfully used for larger production plants, such as type ECON Hybrid 1500. This machine is suitable for a throughput of up to 2,500 kg/h (underwater pelletizing system) and up to 1,200 kg/h (air pelle- tizing system). The customer can thus produce larger batches in both techniques on the same compounding line. The switchov- er usually takes no longer than the preparations for another ma- terial. The hybrid machines can optionally be equipped with all known techniques, such as wear protection, corrosion protection, au- tomatic band filtration systems, etc. The customer can thus choose between underwater, air or hybrid systems.
